“Solar Island”, the way we want to call this project works on a simple parameter of harnessing solar power and convert to electric power.
The island because of its ideal location where sunlight is available uninterrupted was designed like a tree. Like leaves of tree which carry out photosynthesis these solar trees have solar cells installed as a part of solar cones which capture the solar energy and charge the batteries.
There are four such trees and each tree is designed, customised and crafted after studying sun path, shadow analysis of each tree and also self-casting of shadows on each other. The trees have been oriented between South East and South West. Two of the cones in each tree are light elements and lit up the traffic island using solar power that has been accumulated during the day. Semi-circular benches become a place for chit chat or reading a news paper or a book for the citizens of the city.
The brief which was unanimously discussed, approved and reinforced by us and client was “TO GIVE BACK TO THE SOCIETY and be self-sufficient in the best possible manner”.
